Evaluation Question 2
HOW DOES OUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
Presentation of the main character (stalker)
In this slideshow I showed how we portrayed the antagonist character. He always hides his face and visits creepy locations as it is a common conventions of a thriller genre films. Also, the fact that he smokes and always has his hand in pockets shows that he is uncomfident and weak person

QUESTION 2
I USED ANIMOTO TO CREATE THESE SLIDES OF THE STEROTYPICAL REPRESENTATIONS THAT I HAVE USED. THESE STEROTYPES INCLUDE THE ANTAGONIST ALWAYS WEARING BLACK AND ALWAYS HAVING AN ANONYMOUS IDENTITY WHICH IS COMMON IN THE THRILLER GENRE AND IS USUALLY REVEALED WHEN THE FILM PROGESSES.
THE COMMON STEROTYPES THAT I HAVE ALSO SHOWN IS THE LOCATIONS THAT THE VILIAN HANGS ABOUT IN. THEY ARE DARKLY LIT AND ISOLATED WHICH IS ALSO A COMMON CONVENTION OF A THRILLER GENRE.
HE IS USUALLY WRITING OR LOOKING THROUGH PICTURE AND LOOKING FOR PEOPLE ON FACEBOOK THIS SHOWS THAT HE IS ENVIOUS OF THE PROTAGONIST THAT HE IS DOING IT TO AND SHOWS THAT HE MAY BE AN OBBESSIVE PERSON.

TECHNOLOGIES WE HAVE USED DURING OUR PRODUCTION
THROUGHOUT OUR PRODUCTION WE HAVE USED A FEW TECHNOLOGIES TO HELP US DEVELOP OUR FINAL PRODUCT.
WHEN FILMING, WE USED A DV CAMERA WITH A MICROPHONE TO ALLOW US ACHIEVE THE QUALITY STANDARDS. ALSO, WE USED ABIGAYLE'S MICROPHONE TO RECORD THE NARRATION AND FOLEY SOUNDS FOR OUR OPENING SEQUENCE.
THE EDITING WAS THE HARDEST PART AS WE HAD TO LEARN HOW TO USE LOTS OF DIFFERENT SOFTWARE PROGRAMES INCLUDING:
*ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR - I HAVE RECENTLY USED THIS PROGRAM IN MY OTHER SUBJECTS, SO I WAS QUITE CONFIDENT TO DESIGN OUR IDENT LOGO WITH IT. I SCANED THE ORINAG SKETCH AND USED PAINT TOOL TO TRACE IT ONTO THE ILLUSTRATOR TO HAVE A DIGITAL DESIGN FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT.
*AFTER EFFECTS - WE USED AFTER EFFECTS FOR COUPLE OF DETAILS; AT THE BEGINNING WE USED IT FOR THE INDENT TO ADD SOME MOVEMENT AND SPECIAL EFFECTS. THEN WE ALSO USED IT FOR THE TITLE CREDITS: WE EDITED FONT AND EFFECTS OF THE TEXT THAT APPEARS IN THE SEQUENCE.SOME OF THEM HAVE DIFFERENT EFFECTS, E.G. THE FIRST INSTITUTIONAL AND DISTRIBUTION CREDITS HAVE A 'JIGGY' EFFECT ON, HOWEVER, WE COULDN'T USE IT FOR THE OTHER TITLES AS IT WAS HARD TO READ THEM AND THE TIMMING WAS TOO SHORT. INSTEAD OF THAT, WE ADDED A 'TYPO' EFFECT, IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE IS TYPING THE CDREDITS AS THEY APPEAR ON THE SCREEN.
*PREMIER PRO - THIS WAS THE MAIN PROGRAM THAT WE USED WHEN CREATING THE TITLE OPENING SEQUENCE. FIRSTLY, WE CUT AND PLACE THE WHOLE SEQUENCE IN ORDER THAT WOULD REFLECT OUR STORYBOARD, THEN WE LEFT BLANK GAPS FOR THE TITLES. WE ALSO EDITED THE MUSIC USING FADE IN AND OUT EFFECTS AND ALSO CUTTING AND PLACING IN THE POSITION TO GO WELL TOGETHER WITH THE WHOLE VISUAL SEQUENCE. MOREOVER, WE HAVE USED THIS PROGRAM TO EDIT THE BRIGHTNESS OF SOME OF OUR SHOTS THAT WERE EITHER TOO LIGHT OR TOO DARK.
*INTERNET - WE USED INTERNET FOR A WIDE RANGE OF DIFFERENT THINGS, E.G. SOCIAL MEDIA. WE CREATED INSTAGRAM AND TWTTER ACCOUNTS TO PROMOTE OUR FILM TO THE WIDER AUDIENCE, ALSO CREATED A WIX WEBSITE TO SHOW PEOPLE OUR DEVELOPMENT OF THE TITLE OPENING SEQUENCE. MOREOVER, WE USED IT FOR FINDING INFORMATION AND BLOGGING ABOUT OUR PRODUCTION.
*YOUTUBE - IT'S PART OF THE INTERNET GOODS THAT WE USED. WE UPLOADED OUR ROUGH CUTS ONTO THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL IN ORDER TO PUBLISH THEM AND GET FEEDBACK. ALSO, WE USED YOUTUBE WHILE LOOKING FOR SOUNDTRACKS THAT WOULD APPEAL TO OUR FILM.
*COPYRIGHT FREE MUSC - WE USED A COPYRIGHT WEBSITES TO DOWNLOAD OUR SOUNDTRACK WHICH WE USED FOR THE SEQUENCE.
*VIDEO CAMERAS - AS MENTIONED BEFORE, WE USED A DV VIDEO CAMERAS FROM COLLEGE MEDIA DEPARTMENT TO RECORD A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT SHOTS CREATED THE WHOLE SEQUENCE.
*VIDEO DRIVE - EVERY DIGITAL DETAIL THAT WAS INCLUDED IN OUR SEQUENCE WAS STORED IN A VIDEO DRIVE. THIS WAY WE PREVENTED THE ACCIDENTS (SOMEONE DELETING OUR WORK, COMPUTER CRASH, ETC.)
*SD CARDS - WE USED THREE SD CARDS TO STORE OUR CLIPS WHILE FILMING THE SHOTS.
*MOBILE PHONES - WE USED MOBILE PHONES TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE LOCATIONS WHERE WE WERE FILMING, WE ALSO USED IT IN ONE OF THE SCENES WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE OPENING. MOREOVER, IT WAS USEFUL WHEN PROMOTING OUR SEQUENCE ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
*COMPUTERS - WE USED MAC COMPUTERS TO EDIT THE SEQUENCE AND TO BLOG ABOUT OUR PRODUCTION.

QUESTION 6
WE HAVE USED A WIDE RANGE OF TECHNOLOGY:
WE HAVE USED A WIDE RANGE OF TECHNOLOGY:
- THE INTERNET - WE USED THE INTERNET TO LOOK FOR NON COPYRIGHT MUSIC THAT WE USED IN OUR FILM. WE ALSO USED THE INTERENT TO GO ON SOCIAL MEDIA LIKE INSTAGRAM AND FACEBOOK TO ADVERTISE AND BROADCAST OUR FILM, I ALSO USED THE INTERNET TO ADD PICTURES AND GIFS TO MY BLOG AND REASEARCH OTHER TITLE SEQUENCE SO WE HAD AN INSIGHT INTO WHAT PROFESSIONAL TITLE SEQUENCE LOOK LIKES.
- YOUTUBE - I USED YOUTUBE TO UPLOAD THE THINGS THAT WE MADE ON ADOBE PREMIER PRO TO THE BLOG AS WE HAD TO GET AN EMBED CODE BEFORE WE DID THAT.
- MOBILES - WE USED OUR MOBILE PHONES TO TAKE PICTURES OF US WORKING ON LOCATION FOR THE BLOG WE ALSO USED OUR PHONES TO UPDATE OUR SOCIAL MEDIA REGULARLY.
- VIDEO DRIVE - WE USED THIS TO STORE OUR VIDEO AND FOR BACKUP IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO OUR WORK.
- SD CARDS - WE USED THIS IN THE CAMERAS TO STORE THE DIFFERENT CLIPS THAT WE HAD TAKEN ON THE CAMERAS
- JVC VIDEO CAMERA - WE USED THE CAMERA TO FILM ALL OF OUR TITLE SEQUENCE.
- ADOBE ILLISTRATOR - THIS WAS USED TO CREATE THE IDENT.
WE USED CERTAIN TECHNOLOGIES FOR CERTAIN THINGS:
WE USED ADOBE PREMIER PRO CC 2015 TO DO MOST OF OUR EDITING. WE SHORTENED CLIPS AND CUT OUT THINGS WE DONT NEED. AS OUR FILM IS MADE UP OF A MONTAGE OF DIFFERENT SHOTS IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS PREMIER PRO HELPED US PUT THE CLIPS TOGETHER TO COME OUT WITH THE FINAL PRODUCT.
THIS IS US EDITING ON PREMIER PRO:
ANOTHER TECHNOLOGY WE USED IS AFTER AFFECTS. WE USED AFTER AFFECTS TO ADD THE CREDITS ONTO OUT TITLE SEQUENCE, HERE WE ADDED THE AFFECTS THAT IS SEEN IN OUR TITLE SEQUENCE LIKE THE LETTER APPEARING ONE AFTER EACH OTHER LIKE IT IS BEING TYPED WHEN THE TITLE IS SHOWN. WE ALSO COULD ALTER THE FONT ON THE TITLE SEQUENCE TO FIT OUR GENRE.
THIS IS US USING AFTER AFFECTS:
WE USED THE SD CARDS EVERYTIME WE TOOK THE CAMERAS OUT TO FILM. WE HAD TO BUT CARD A AND CARD B INTO THE PROVIDED SLOTS SO WE WERE ABLE TO FILM. THE CLIPS THAT WERE ON THE SD CARDS WERE LATER TRANSFERRED TO THE VIDEO DRIVE AND FROM THERE WE WERE ABLE TO EDIT THE CLIPS ON PREMIER PRO.
THIS IS A PICTURE OF THE SD CARDS.
MOST OF THE TECHNOLOGIES HELPED IN SOME WAY BUT ADOBE PREMIER PRO AND AFTER AFFECTS SEEMED TO BE THE MOST USEFUL AS THIS IS WERE WE ACTUALLY EDITED THE CLIPS THAT WE SHOT AND MADE THE TITLE SEQUENCE YOU SEE TO DO. AFTER AFFECTS ENABLED US TO BE CREATIVE WITH OUR CREDITS WHICH MEANT THAT WE COULD MAKE THE CREDITS FIT IN WITH OUR CERTAIN GENRE. ALSO IT HELPED US WITH THE AFFECTS OF OUR CREDITS. HOWEVER THE SD CARDS WERE ALSO USEFUL AS WE USED THEM TO STORE ALL THE FOOTAGE TAKEN ON THE JVC CAMERAS. THE CAMERA'S WERE REALLY HIGH QUALITY SO WE COULD PICK UP REALLY FINE DETAIL AND MAKE IT LOOK AS PROFESSIONAL AS WE COULD. Evaluation Question 5
Evaluation Question 6
Technology was a massive part of out production and we wouldn't have been able to produce our film opening without it. I believe that the technology also helped and added to our creativity and develop more ideas for the film opening as we were surrounded by inspiration all the time.
Final Editing Session
THIS IS OUR FINAL EDITING LESSON. THIS IS WERE WE FINIALIZED EVERYTHING FOR THE SCREEN ON THE GREEN AND MADE SURE THAT WE HAD EVERYTHING WE WANTED TO PUT INTO THE TITLE SEQUENCE IN. WE CHECKED SAFE MARGINS TO SEE IF OUR TEXT WAS IN A SAFE SPACE. AT THE END OF THE LESSON WE TICKED OUR GROUP OFF OF THE LIST AS WE HAD COMPLETED OUR TITLE SEQUENCE.

Recording Extra Sounds
Today I recorded extra sounds for our opening as we still needed more layers of sound. Firstly, I re-recorded the breathing which I initially recorded the other day as it sounded too feminine. Then, I also recorded a narration to place at the end of the opening, which will fit in with the extra footage that we shot.
In order to do this, two people helped me as they were boys. Like last time, I recorded the sounds using my microphone and laptop.

Narrative script by Monika and lauryn
Narrative script.
We had an idea that the villain could be on the phone to someone at the end of the title sequence and this is the script:
Villain:'' I can't do anything about it, her scent attracts my predator instincts. You know that feeling man? its just her, she's the mystery i've been trying to solve even if it will cost my freedom. However There are times when all I can think about is the satisfaction I will get slicing her heart open."
(We will put 'phone effect' to make it sound like the stalker is on the phone with someone when saying this)

DRAFTING- By Lauryn and Abi.
Drafting:
After recent feedback of our first rough cut it was said that the ending was unclear (the girl accepting the friend request). It was meant to signify danger as we saw the villain's environment and lifestyle before he send the request along with the music.
To make it more clear to the audience it was said to add more of a narrative approach to the ending.
We thought that we would:
- Film the actual target walking somewhere
- Have the stalker watching and following her
- Have her walking out of her house (normal)
Here are some shots Taken by Abigayle in Hainault :
We thought that this would make the audience understand the title sequence a little bit more as it was discreet.
Recording Sounds
Today (17th January), I recorded some sounds for our opening as we needed more layers of sounds to make it more effective. I recorded the sounds using a microphone and my laptop.
The sounds I recorded are:
- Breathing
- Paper ripping
-Writing on paper
-Slamming paper down
-A bang
-Opening the door
-Flicking through photos
-Typing on a keyboard
- Finger tapping
We intend to record more sounds tomorrow during lesson time such as footsteps and a male breathing heavily, as I believe that the breathing sound I recorded sounds too feminine.
Here are some photos of me recording:

FINAL SOUNDSCAPE.
We were were looking at many different thriller soundtracks. Taking inspiration from our remake seven we wanted to use a similar soundtrack. We had to look for non copyright music so we looked at many different sites to find one.
We used this soundtrack all throughout the title sequence. However we had a different soundtrack for the indent to help differentiate the indent more. This is the soundtrack we used:
We are also going to use foley sound.
The types of foley sound that we are going to use are:
we finally came across a copyright free sight called beat suite:
http://www.beatsuite.com/music/category/crime-thriller-espionage/353http://www.beatsuite.com/music/category/crime-thriller-espionage/353
and decided to use these following tracks:

FILMING - additional shot
After sharing our Rough Cut 1 with other classmates we decided to take their opinion into account and filmed some additional shots where we introduce the second character - Cassie. This made our opening title sequence more narrative as those shots are the first scene of the actual film.
The filming took place in Hainault, Abigayle's house.

EDITING - refering to feedback + titles
EDITING
-----------------
(Whole group working together)
In today's double session we had enough time to make some changes in our title opening sequence, also deciding about the details of where and when to film our additional shots. We also had a chance to start including titles in the sequence using after affects.
On the other half of the session we split the tasks between us to get more things done.
(Editing title sequence)
We adjusted the brightness and colour balance on the brightest shot (under the bridge shot in Camden) which everyone thought contrasts too much with the rest of them and doesn't fit in. We made sure it's darker and stands out less.

THE EVALUATION OF ROUGH CUT 1
THE TITLE
SEQUENCE
The title
sequence that we used in Rough Cut 1 was mostly discrete as we tried to make it
look mysterious and set the tone and genre of a thriller. However the ending
includes some narrative shots, e.g.: the girl accepting stalkers friend request
predicts that the story will be around those two characters. Moreover, we tried
to stick with our story board as much as possible, but as we were travelling to
film, we found some new places and we just couldn’t walk away without taking
some shots as they seemed perfect to fit our genre, that’s why we ended up with
more shots than we planned.
On the
whole, our sequence is mostly made up from location shots; we wanted to
establish the stalkers environment and places he would be likely to visit. We
have also included scenes of him doing some really weird things as he suffers
from mental disability. In addition, we created more black background gaps for
the titles in-between the sequence than we planned, this is because some shots we used were contrasting
too much and didn’t look as smooth as it does with a few second gaps.
QALITY OF
CAMERA
I think
that we did quite well with the camera work; we used many different shots
including over the shoulder and extreme close up. During the filming we were
mostly using the tripod in order to make sure that the camera was steady and
straight while recording.
VARIETY OF
SHOT TYPES USED
We used a
big variety of different shots as we were aiming for a discrete opening
sequence.
WIDE SHOT
CLOSE UP
SHOTS
EXTREME
CLOSE UP
TILTING –
Tunnel shot.
PANNING
SHOT – the graffiti door shot.
LOW ANGLE
SHOT
OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT
LIGHTING
The scenes
that we filmed were mostly done when it’s already dark. However for some of
them we had to use professional filming lights from school. The shed scene was
filmed without any additional lights, because the candles gave just enough light
to create dramatic and mystical scene. We also used flash light for couple of
scenes, e.g. the dolls head shot.
CHARACTERS
We didn’t
have many characters as our aim was to make the opening look as discrete as
possible, however we had some issues. The actor who was meant to play the
stalker throughout the whole sequence was only available for one day, but we
solved this problem by asking our other friends to help us. In total there were
three different actors playing the stalker, but it’s impossible to tell as all
of them were wearing jumper with a hood on and black gloves. In addition, the second
character is being introduced, we made it look like the audience would know
that the victim exists and see her as a character even though they can’t see
her acting in the sequence.
MISE-EN-SCENE
We
used some public places such as; Greenwich foot tunnel, Leyton memorial, Public
Bridge and Camden Town. However, we made sure that when we film in those places
we don’t record other people, or try to go there when there aren’t that many
people. The rest of the location were our own houses and back gardens.
We used props such as:
* The
doll heads (we had to damage them to make them relate to the theme).
* Black
gloves and jumper with a hood (stalkers costume).
* Cigarettes
and ashtray (also added some red paint to the ashtray to help establish the genre).
*
Tools that we found in the shed.
*
Laptop and phone (the facebook scene)
*
Matches
* Pictures
*Candles
*Notebook
and a pen

Evaluation of Rough Cut 1
I believe that our group's rough cut of our title sequence was successful as a whole. As we decided to do a discrete opening, the order of the shots made sense, even though they were not in the exact order that we had intended due to finding more locations whilst out filming.
The camera work in my opinion was okay. We used many different shots and used the tripod as different stages of filming. However, some of the footage that we shot was really shaky due to the very cold weather - to solve this we cut down the footage during editing so that it wasn't as noticeable.
We only had two characters in our film opening, one of the reasons for this decision was that our opening was discrete. One character was played by my friend; however the role role was played through photographs of her. The character of the stalker was played by different people due to the original person not being able to shoot all the time. As the stalkers' costume was black clothing, and their face was never revealed, different people were able to play it without any viewers noticing.
I feel as if we used the Mise-en-scene well during our opening which really allowed to achieve our genre of Thriller/Horror. The use of the grave yard and Greenwich Foot Tunnel really added to that. I also think the use of costumes and props really added to this too.

Over the shoulder shots
Extreme close ups
Panned shots
Low angle shots
For a few of the scenes we used lights which we borrowed from college as we were filming in many different dark locations. However, we had to use the lights on our phones to spotlight the character and his surroundings as the power was out. There were other times in which we didn't use the lights as it would ruin the natural light and its affect, such as in the Greenwich Foot Tunnel.
