RESEARCH - Types of Film Openings

There are FOUR different types of title sequences. The first ones are titles on a blank screen, which aren't as common nowadays. These types of title sequences were normally shown on a black background which the credits in a white, clear font. It's a simple and uncomplicated way to include information at the beginning of a film.

Another type is titles on still images. This way way more elaborate and lasted longer than the titles on a blank screen as these included the cast and crew. A big difference was that they combine different types of media to make the background. However, the music and still images are all conventions of the genre of the film.

The next type of title sequence is titles over moving images. These moving images would be of clips of the film, or just videos leading up to the film. There would usually be sound but no dialogue, however there would possibly be narration. You would also get a sense of the movie and the narrative.

The last one is titles using animation or motion. These require a lot of high digital technology to produce. You would often see a character from the movie in the title sequence to make the it relatable to the movie. They also consist of animated text and the titles are integrated with the images.

My favourite out of these four would have to be the titles on moving images because to me it has a purpose. You get the chance to find out more about the movie in little time and get to understand more about the plot without knowing too much.
